Always look on the inside

I remember reading a story once about a man who was exploring some cavesby the seashore. In one of the caves he found a canvas bag with a bunchof hardened clay balls. It was like someone had rolled up some clay andleft them out in the sun to bake. They didn't look like much, but theyintrigued the man so he took the bag out of the cave with him.As he strolled along the beach, to pass the time, he would throw theclay balls one at a time out into the ocean as far as he could throw.

He thought little about it until he dropped one of the balls and it cracked open on a rock. Inside was a beautiful, precious stone. Excited, the man started breaking open the remaining clay balls. Each contained asimilar treasure. He found thousands of dollars worth of jewels in the20 or so clay balls he had left, then it struck him.

He had been on the beach a long time. He had thrown maybe 50 or 60 ofthe clay balls with their hidden treasure into the ocean waves. Insteadof thousands of dollars in treasure, he could have had tens ofthousands, but he just threw it all away.

You know sometimes, it's like that with people. We look at someone, maybe even ourselves, and we see the external clay vessel. It doesn'tlook like much from the outside. It isn't always beautiful or sparkling,so we discount it; we see that person as less important than someonemore beautiful or stylish or well known or wealthy. But we have not taken the time to find the treasure hidden inside that person.

There is a treasure hidden in every one of us. We are wonderfully made. Not just our physical bodies, our spiritual selves, which are sometimes hidden from others by the *earthen vessel*, but if you take the time to get to know that person, and if you ask the Spirit to show you that person the way He sees them, then the claybegins to peel away and the brilliant gem begins to shine forth.

The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindlysmile, nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspirationthat comes to one when he discovers that someone else believes in himand is willing to trust him with his friendship.

Touching the feet (2)

Yesterday while reading the post "touching the feet", some thoughts came to my mind & then i decided to post this new topic. 1st of all, sorry vivek, but if i want to respect someone, itz not necessary that i should touch his/her feet. coz i think respect comes from mind, from heart. we don't need to show it off. in my case i only touch my parents feet, coz they are truely god for me. may be itz good to see that new generation is still care for the earlier, but what if i don't care about the older but i touch their feet? but, ya, if someone really wants to touch someone's feet (from to heart & not for the seck of others), then itz perfectly ok.

I don't want to contradict anyone, but itz just my point of view. I think that i don't need to show it off that i respect /care someone by touching his/her feet.

Ek din, main Kolkata pahuncha,
Station pe ek coolie se bahar jane ka rasta pooncha.
Coolie ne kaha: "Bahar jaake poocho."

Maine khud hi rasta dhundh liya,
Bahar jaake taxiwale se pooncha:
"Bhai saab Grand Hotel ka kitna loge?"
Jawab mila: "Bechna nahi hai."

Taxi chod, maine bus pakad li,
Conductor se pooncha: "Ji, kya mein cigarette pi sakta hoon?"
Wo gurrra kar bola: "Hargiz nahi, yaha cigarette pina mana hai."
Maine kaha: "Par wo janab to pi rahe hai!"
Phir se gurrrraya: "Usne mujhse pooncha nahi hai."

Grand Hotel pahucha, hotel gaya.
Manager se kaha: "Mujhe room chahiye, satvi manzil pe."
Manager ne kaha: "Rahane ke liye ya koodne ke liye?"
Room pahucha, waiter se kaha:
"Ek paani ka gilas milega?"
Usne jawab diya: "Nahi sahab, yahan to saare kanch ke milte hain."

Hotel se nikla, dost ke ghar jaane ke liye,
Raste me ek sahab se pooncha:
"Janab, ye sadak kaha ko jaati hai?"
Janab hans kar bole: "Peechle bees saal se dekh rahan hoon,
Yahi padi hai... kahin nahin jaati."

Dost ke ghar pahucha, to mujhe dekhte hi chownk pada,
Usne poocha: "Kaise aana hua?"
Ab tak to mujhe bhi aadat pad gayi thi,
Maine bhi jawab diya: "Train se."

Meri aaobhagat karne ke liye dost ne apni biwi se kaha:
"Areeee sunti ho... mera dost pehli baar ghar aaya hai,
Uuse kuch taja taja khilao."
Sunte hi bhabhiji ne ghar ki sari
khidkiya aur darwaje khol diye.
Kaha: "Taji hawa kha lijiye."

Dost ne phir se baday pyar se! ! biwi se kaha:
"Areeee sunti ho, inhe jara apna chalis saal purana aachar to dikhana."

Bhabiji ek baatli me rakha aachar le aayi.
Maine bhi apnapan dikhate hue bhabiji se kaha:
"Bhabhiji, aachar sirf dikhayengi, chakhayengi nahi?"
Bhabiji ne taak jawab diya: "Yuhi agar sab ko chakhati
To aachar chalis saal purana kaise hota?"

Thodi der baad dekha, bhabiji apne potey ko sula rah thi,
Saath me lori bhi ga rahi thi:
"Diploma so ja, diploma so ja."
Lori soon mein hairan hua aur dost se poocha:
"Yaar, ye diploma kya hai?"
Dost ne jawab diya: "Mere grandson ka naam,
Beti bambai gayi thi, diploma lene ke liye
Aur saath mein ise le aayi,
Isiliye hamne iska naam Diploma rakh diya."
Phir maine pooncha: "Aajkal tumhari beti kya kar rahi hai?"
Dost ne jawab diya: "Bambai gayi hai, degree lene ke liye..

Touching the Feet !

Touching the feet of elders has always been a tradition of India (read Hindus) from time immorable. It not only signifies respect and love, but also complete self-submission and absolute humbleness.

Observing and reflecting for quite some time now, I've developed my own logic to explain this. Lets see if this becomes acceptable to you.

Have we ever considered why are the feet of a human being is touched to show respect? Why not his hand or head or any other part of the body? If one believes that God exists in every person then He should exist homogenously throughout the body. My opinion is this :

In accordance with hygiene of a person, the feet can be considered as the least hygienic part of a person. So when we touch the feet to show respect, it means that you are showing respect to the person's least respectable part, you are symbolising it with Narayana. This implies how much respect you have for the person as a whole. This is almost the manifestation of an absolute dignity, and hence has been in vogue in hindu culture for such a long time.

Today's generation, like my own sister, feels very uncomfortable in touching the feet of elders. In my childhood, even I felt the same way. I know, that only an external gesture cannot truely express the feelings of your heart. If you really respect a person, you dont have to wear it on your sleeves and touch his feet every now and then to show it off. But still, I do value my culture and my tradition. I consider this form of gesture too good to be dying away from my generation and I religiously and heartily practise this.

I think its quite selfish for us, who feel uncomfortable doing it. Though personally, I do not let anybody touch my own feet, but if it gives the other (elder) people some honour which he rightly deserves, then why discard it. We think for our own good in almost every step of life, so why dont we shed these selfish attitudes for a while and just do it for the sake of our near and dear ones only to make them feel good. We have been receiving so much favours from our elders since our birth, that its no use trying to repay it back, but I swear that it feels heavenly to atleast please them and make them smile (dont read: oiling).

I believe there should be a sense of culture and nice traditions in the heart of every successful and nice character.

Me and my ambitions!!

When we all were nothing but kids...we all had ambitions of something big! Well just like any other kid I had my share of ambitions!!!! I had all these silly ambitions of becoming a police officer(like Kiran Bedi),a doctor(the most common)n the most daring and favourite of mine was that of becoming an Astronaut!!! To be very honest this was not my original idea ....my partner in crime was my cousin brother Tutuda!

We'd all mugged up from the various encyclopaedias all about space n aircrafts n astronauts....n we had this strong belief that it's very much possible to make a rocket n off to the moon!!!!! With this strong belief and stars in our eyes we decided that we are all set to build our own rocket!! Our factory was a small rooftop adjoining chamber in my aunt's apartment and all through the summer vacation the main thing that we used to do in the noon time was to make our own rocket!! Obviously our main inputs were some old packing boxes, some broken pieces of a basin......n our vivid imagination! We had even decided that my brother is going to be the pilot n me the co-pilot! We had almost finished our work(dont ask how)when 1day my aunt caught us on the roof top during the noon time amidst all these! and that was the end of our Mission Impossible!

So that was one of my childhood antics .......I know they are very much silly ....but thats my signature perhaps!

In the Battle of Britain

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed,
and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds-
and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of -
wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence.
Hov'ring there I've chased the shouting wind along,
and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace,
Where never the lark, nor even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod The high,
untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

Blind Love

Blind Love
---by Shakespeare

O me ! what eyes hath love put in my head
Which have no correspondence with true sight:
Or if they have, where is my judgement fled
That censures falsely what they see alright?

If that be fair whereon my false eyes dote,
What means the world to say it is not so?
If it be not, then love doth well denote
Love's eye is not so true as all men's : No.

How can it? O how can love's eye be true,
That is so vex'd with watching and with tears?
No marvel then though I mistake my view:
The sun itself sees not till heaven clears.

O cunning Love! with tears thou keep'st me blind,
Lest eyes well-seeing thy foul faults should find!
A man finally goes with his wife to church, after promising her for weeks that he'd go. Surprisingly, the man was so impressed with the preacher's sermon he stopped on the way out to shake his hand.

"Preacher, I'll tell you, that was a DAMN fine sermon."

The preacher says, "Why thank you sir, but we don't used profanity in the house of the Lord."

The man says, "But preacher, seriously, I'm not a religious man, but that was the best DAMNED sermon I ever heard."

The preacher says again, "Sir, while I appreciate what you're trying to say, I must be blunt: DO NOT use curse words in the Lord's house again."

The man says, "Well, anyway, I was so impressed with your sermon that I placed $5000 dollars in the collection plate".

"No Shit?" says the Preacher.
